Michael Fortenberry: The Accessible Instrument

Headstone is thrilled to present, The Accessible Instrument, a solo exhibition by Michael Fortenberry. Suspended from the gallery’s distinctive steel beams and standing stoic presence on the floor are three, somatic (when activated) sculptures made of wood, steel, and sound. The forms resemble three-dimensional skeletal drawings of a shallot, orifice, or space pod; they are expertly crafted and provocative. Fortenberry’s fundamental message is that the mind is never truly at rest. Thus, his sculptures create an interaction that is hyper-aware of body and space while foiling its inspired origin by attempting a flow state.
